Lighting Design − 2016

International research-to-practice conference "Lighting Design — 2016" was held in Vedensky Hotel, St. Petersburg, Russia on October 06–07, 2016. Leading Russian and European experts from the fields of lighting design, architecture, design, multimedia, art and engineering was all gathered in one convenient location to discuss the theme of this year’s conference "Light. Space. Time”.

Goal

The main goal of this conference was to generate intelligent discussion forum in order to develop a competitive market for lighting design and produce new ideas and trends to connect Business & Science with Art & Technology.

Objectives

To present the best international projects and practical specialists from the field of lighting design, to identify strategies for using technological trends and to discover future techniques for working with light.

To develop quality multidisciplinary educational and research programs in order to increase specialists’ competitiveness.

To integrate business and professional communities into educational and research activities in order to optimize lighting design solutions and involve multidisciplinary teams to implement innovative projects and tasks.

Attendees

Leading specialists of Russian and foreign companies working in the fields of lighting design, design, multimedia and art; lighting designers, architects, artists, philosophers, scientists, students, technicians, designers, representatives of state institutions and authorities — all those who are looking for new possibilities for light.

Program

The format of two-day's event included 4 general panel discussions, more than 20 presentations, workshops and lections of the key industry leaders from the field of lighting design, interactive technology, art and education. In addition to the main program were organized cultural and social events such as mini-exhibition of lighting installations and open lectures for a city at The New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre in order to promote development of lighting culture and to improve knowledge of citizen in the field of the science of light. Conference ended with the awards ceremony for the Competition "Light: motivation or manipulation" and the warm-up event of the global convention of lighting designers PLDC.

Conference headliners

Roger Narboni, the world-renowned French lighting designer, visual artist and electronical engineer, is the director of CONCEPTO (Paris, France). He launched in 1987 a new discipline Light Urbanism and has realised since then more than 120 lighting master plans in France and abroad 

Andreas Schulz, professor, lighting designer of the Year 2015, member of IALD, founder of Licht Kunst Licht AG

Dr. Matthias Rauterberg, Ph.D. in Computer Sience/Mathematics, Dutch professor of Eindhoven University of Technology, explorers of new things in the interaction, IT and industry of computer games

Joachim Ritter, editor-in-chief of the Professional Lighting Design magazine, owner of the VIA-Verlag company, organizer and founder of the global lighting design conventions PLDC

Jari Vuorinen, a partner and lighting design director at international Lighting Design Collective in Finland (Helsinki), which creates imaginative, state-of-the-art lighting schemes for architecture and built environments using design research based on high tech applications, digital content and artistic assets

Kristin Neidlinger, future concepts designer, SENSOREE founder, which works with futuristic fabrics made from sustainable materials embedded with sensitive technologies and joints with Stanford and the University of Twente research

Marco Frascarolo, Ph.D., member of PLDA, founder of Fabertechnica and professor of Roma Tre University, author of new lighting conceptions of Sistine Chapel and Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi (UNESCO world heritage site)
