International Master Program

CLD combines high technologies and creativity in its approach to Lighting Design research and education. Its International Master program in Lighting Design is one of its kind in Russia. It attracts not only graduate students with various backgrounds, but also people with extensive professional experience in Architecture, Interior / Urban Design, Media, and Engineering. Its educational methodology is based on the synthesis of problem-oriented and a human centric approaches. No other design program in Russia allows for such deep integration of modern technologies (human computer interaction, big data, microelectronics, new materials, smart wearables, IoT, photonics and optics for health research) into educational processes and applied research projects by students and staff.

The overall goal of this multidisciplinary approach is to solve societal challenges that modern humans, communities, and cities face. Majority of case studies and projects CLD students work on are dedicated to the topic of health. They are aimed at learning how to improve quality of light in urban and public spaces. CLD works closely with the Lighting Design industry, local community and regional authorities through its International research laboratory ‘Lighting Design for Urban Environments’. This is where CLD students  get their first professional experience working on real-life projects and applying their theoretical knowledge in practice hand-in-hand with international experts and industrial partners. ITMO team members possess both high qualifications and valuable practical experience, thereby providing both a high quality education to students and significant contribution to the modernisation of teaching methods and means of instruction
